Fishing Report for the Week of November 7-14.

Water Temps:Duck - 59 Degrees
Frisco - 60 Degrees

An Overview for the Week

Fishing was decent last weekend, but the end of the week brought strong winds and lots of rain, and that slowed down the fishing.

[surf fishing report]When the weather man cooperated, the fishing was fair to good for surfcasters. Some speckled trout and puppy drum were caught along the northern beaches throughout the week, but action slowed significantly on Wednesday and Thursday. Most of the trout were much smaller than those we saw a week or so ago. A selection of artificial lures, including MirrOLures, and a variety of soft plastics such as Assassins, Gulp! lures and Gotcha tails were productive. Small bluefish were also captured by surfcasters along the northern beaches. Early in the week Hatteras Island surf fishermen reported scattered drum in all sizes, from puppies to big reds, bluefish, speckled trout, black drum and sea mullet. Hatteras Inlet produced some good catches of puppy drum and bluefish. Many of the reds were keepers, but action slowed to a crawl on Thursday.

[sound fishing report]Boaters found some fish, but poor weather kept boats in port on Thursday. Speckled trout, puppy drum, flounder and striped bass provided some good catches around Oregon Inlet. Most of the stripers were caught further north in the sounds, from the southern of Roanoke Island up to the Manns Harbor Bridge. The “Little Bridge” on the Nags Head-Manteo Causeway produced scattered catches of striped bass, some speckled trout and a few puppy drum, but overall activity was slow. Hatteras and Ocracoke boaters reported a mix of fish. Drum, speckled trout and flounder provided some action at Hatteras, while Ocracoke boaters reported mostly drum. But, that’s not a bad thing, since the redfish ranged from small puppies to big drum in the 40-pound range.

[pier fishing report]Pier fishing was only fair, but on many of the days, the planks only had a few anglers trying their luck. Small speckled trout, puppy drum, bluefish, sea mullet, skates and dogfish provided most of the action. Frisco pier reported a strong run of sea mullet, and many were good-sized fish.
